Legalmen Project
GAP members are asked to support this project by providing a monetary donation
so that care packages can be assembled and mailed throughout the year to Navy
Legalmen (paralegals) who are currently serving in Iraq. Please send your
donations to the GAP office, checks should be made payable to GAP, with a note
designating “Legalmen Project”. We will also be sending correspondence, so if

Description: Constantly buzzing with activity, the Product Rescue Center (PRC)
is the area of the Food Bank where all food drive and salvaged food items are
brought to be inspected and packaged by volunteers for distribution to more than
800 nonprofit partner agencies. Food Bank trucks pick up goods from food drives,
grocery stores and manufacturers, and drop them off at the Product Rescue Center
every day. We’ll be inspecting, sorting and packing these goods. This area of
operation is crucial to the Food Bank as it ensures that salvage and food drive
donations will be safe and wholesome for distribution to people in need. The
Product Rescue Center provides great hands-on experience in a social atmosphere.

Discovery Program at Belmont Hills Elementary with Hands on Atlanta
On Saturday,
March 22, 2008, GAP joined Hands on Atlanta and other volunteers to tutor
Kindergarten through 5th grade students at Belmont Hills Elementary. It was an
incredibly rewarding experience to share their enthusiastic joy for learning. In
addition to working with the students on a variety of Easter-themed projects, we
also helped them study for their upcoming CRCT exams. Some of the practice exam
questions reminded us of the show "Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?" One
volunteer joked, "I don't know if I'm even smarter than one of these
Kindergarteners!" Photos
Toys for Tots 2007
The mission of the
U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped
toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys
as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is
conducted.
On December 4, 2007, the Georgia Association of Paralegals held a toy
drive at its annual GAP Holiday Party. Attendees brought new, unwrapped
toys for the children of Atlanta who would otherwise have no Christmas.
Thank you for helping make this another successful event!
Making Strides Breast Cancer Walk 2007
Once again, the Georgia Association of Paralegals will
be participating in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk at
Atlantic Station on Saturday, October 27, 2007. We are looking for volunteers to
take part in the walk as well as raise funds for the American Cancer Society.
With the funds that we raise, we will help thousands of people to have a better
chance of beating breast cancer! Last year, GAP raised over $3,000.00 for the
American Cancer Society and hope to raise even more this year!
If you will not be able to participate in the Making Strides walk, please
consider making a donation to the American Cancer Society at our GAP dinner
meeting on October 9th or mail your donation to the GAP office referencing
Breast Cancer Walk on your check.
Hands On Atlanta's
8th Annual ServisJuris Day

to with Hands on Atlanta and other members of the legal community for ServiceJuris Day 2007.
The service project for 2007 was the renovation of the Vine
City community.

Making Strides Breast Cancer Walk 2006
The Georgia Association of Paralegals participated in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk at
Atlantic Station on Saturday, October 28, 2006. With the funds that we raise, we

Making Strides is a non-competitive 3 mile walk designed to raise awareness,
foster camaraderie, and raise funds for breast cancer research, services,
patient education, and advocacy. Hands on Atlanta's
7th Annual ServiceJuris
GAP,
along with fellow members of the legal community, helped renovate
Bolton Academy, a public school in West Atlanta, as part of Hands On
Atlanta’s ServiceJuris Day on June 24th (9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.). GAP
members were encouraged to bring family members and friends (age 13 and up).
Diaper Drive
GAP members recently took part in the summer ‘06 Community Service project by
supplying the Genesis Shelter (www.genesisshelter.com)
with diapers to be used by the homeless residents with newborn babies. In
addition to the many diapers, over $300.00 in monetary donations were collected
at the June member meeting. A very sincere thank you to all of you that
participated!
